Teaching and learning in higher education

The 3-day course is designed to enable anyone teaching in higher education institutions to acquire skills and pedagogic knowledge in how to be a more effective teacher in the higher education context. The professionalisation of teaching in the higher education sector is becoming increasingly important. This course provides an opportunity for institutions to help their lecturers acquire formal training in teaching and learning. It is also an opportunity for any lecturer wishing to develop and become a more effective teacher to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. Regardless of the stage of your lecturing career, this course will help you to become properly equipped to deliver your teaching role with greater effectiveness and a better understanding of how to design and deliver teaching in order to maximise the learning experience of your students. Both experienced and early career academics will find the course useful for developing academic practice and implementing effective teaching and learning practices in their institutions. Participants who complete the course will receive a Certificate of competence in teaching and learning in higher education which, in addition to other requirements, can provide a pathway to membership of the Higher Education Academy.
